Cottage Projects Timeline

Last night we wrote up a list of everything we'd like to do to the cottage. We can't afford to do everything all at once, so we broke it down into phases. The plan is to tackle a few projects each year, as we save up the money, starting with the things that we can do ourselves, such as paint.

Here's the plan.

Two Antiquing Finds - Chair and Corner Cupboard both from White Flower Farmhouse in Peconic

Phase I - This Fall
  • Paint great room wood-paneled walls white to make the room look bigger, brighter, "beachier"
  • Enclose the "front room" to create a fourth bedroom
  • Strip the nursery wallpaper from the small bedroom and add bead board panels
  • Replace the bathroom sink with something more appropriate to the era of the clawfoot tub
  • Replace the mauve tile in bathroom with bead board

Phase II - Spring
  • Install windows on the front porch, so that we can use it as a sitting room - and remove the brown storm shutters
  • Hire a professional painter to strip years of paint off porch and repaint - I think that room is beyond my skills
  • Hire a carpenter to build custom built-in sections with storage underneath for the porch - L-shaped sectional to either side of front door
  • Remove mounted deer trophy
  • Paint every room the walls of every room
  • Paint all doors and trim white high gloss (except kitchen)
  • Replace the linoleum in great room/kitchen/bath addition with hard wood floors
linoleum must go
Linoleum will be covered with hard wood flooring

Phase III - Next Year or Two
  • Renovate Kitchen: Install distressed country cabinets, butcher block countertops, farmhouse sink, dishwasher, cooktop; add wall cabinet with lazy susan above fridge if there's room behind that wall

Phase IV - One Day, Hopefully
  • Replace vinyl siding with cedar shingles
  • Increase curb appeal - add brick drive and entry pergola and window boxes
  • Side yard - arbor, gate, and picket fence
  • Backyard - rear pergola
Hey, a girl can dream!

Meanwhile, it's been a lot of fun exploring the nearby towns.
