Anyone who has ever renovated an old home has likely encountered "the pink bathroom." It's often the first thing you see hit the dumpster in home renovation shows. The once-ubiquitous fixtures are lined up like pastel tombstones in architectural salvage yards everywhere and can be had for a relative pittance. But not for long! Savvy renovators are snapping them up. Repurposed in a more modern context, pink console sinks look especially fresh and new. Could we be on the cusp of a return of the pink bathroom?
Pink has always had its passionistas. Digiday traces the rise of "Millennial pink" to sometime around 2016, the year Pantone anointed "Rose Quartz" color of the year. It's the color that launched the obsession with gold hardware and fixtures, which saw a resurgence in popularity at roughly the same time.
It's been half a decade, and pink hasn't lost its luster, though maybe it's a bit less sweet. Pink fixtures are taking modern shapes.
Blush pink plaster is earthy and timeless. This is Tadelakt, a type of tinted plaster used in Moroccan architecture for centuries. It's my latest obsession.
And then there's pink marble. Ooh la la!
Thanks to trailblazers like interior designer Athena Calderone, whose marble shower is pictured above, pink marble is just starting to trend.
