Christmas Craft: Tree in a Bottle

Years ago we started a tradition of ornament crafting with the kids at Grandma's house. When they were small, we painted simple glass globes. But as they became more adept at crafting, we've tried our hands at some trickier projects.

This tree in a bottle ornament only looks difficult. It turned out to be one of the easiest crafts. Bigger kids are able to pull this off on their own, with little help.

To make this craft, all you need to purchase are the tiny bottles—I like the ones with cork stoppers—and some tiny green bottle brush trees.

You just dab a blob of white paint in the bottom of each bottle for "snow." After positioning the tree, cap it, and tie the whole thing up with some red and white bakers twine and it's ready for hanging.

Supplies

Cork bottles

Bottle brush trees

White tempura paint

Paint brushes

Bakers twine

Step One:

Dab a drop of white poster paint in the bottom of each bottle, then swish it around. There's your snow!

Step Two:

Slide a small brush tree inside the bottle and position it among the snow.

Step Three:

Cap the bottle with the cork, then tie some bakery twine around the neck of the bottle, leaving a loop for hanging.

Step Four:

Let them dry for about an hour, then they're ready for hanging on the tree.
