Cottage Paint Color: Ice Blue

Choosing paint color for the beach cottage hallway was challenging. The porch and hallway are where visitors form their first impressions, so we knew we wanted it to be a light color that reflects the colors in nature surrounding the cottage - colors of the sky and sea.

The hallway was "created" when Dan walled off the old front room. It's long and narrow, so we knew we needed a light color to open it up.

We looked at many samples of blue and chose one so icy light that it almost looks white in the can. It is a great transition color from the front porch, which we planned to paint white with a traditional blue/gray floor.

We chose Benjamin Moore Ice Blue.

The ice blue compliments the cushions we chose for the built-ins on the porch. And I built a runner of Flor tiles in robin's egg blue, and found an inexpensive flush mount light fixture at Ikea. and side table from CB2.

The real improvement though was painting all of the door trim throughout the cottage in BM white semi-gloss. I don't think there's a piece of bare wood in the whole cottage that my paintbrush hasn't touched, except in the kitchen, which we chose to keep natural to compliment the butcher block counters we are planning on.

But that's another story for another day!
