And we have pantries, and moldings, and toe kicks today! I never know exactly what I’ll see when I get home after work each night this week. Yesterday the carpenter had finished up the top trim, installed the toe-kicks, and placed the pantry doors. The quality of the Scherr's woodwork is excellent so far. I'm really happy with our decision to go with them to create the custom doors for our IKEA cabinets.
The door above the fridge is coming in the second order with the wall oven doors—this is where a fraction of an inch off makes a world of difference, so it's best to plan to "field-fit" them.
I just love the sharp definition in these panels.
So, what up next? Well, the base cabinets are all drawer cabinets, and they need to be assembled. I know from experience that they take more time to assemble than plain old doors and shelves. They're also more expensive, but so worth it. If you're interested in why I went with drawers in all my base cabinets, the utility, functionality, and efficient use of space can't be beat. As one Houzzer put it:
"Only reason to not do drawers is to save money, or if you like wearing knee pads and a headlamp to see what is in your base cabinets."I'm anticipating those might be in by tonight when I get home. Appliances hook up will likely be next week. Two are dependent on the countertops — the undermount sink and the cooktop. Once those are in and the fridge is turned on, we can dismantle the temporary kitchen and move to the real one!
Ross says he’ll miss cooking in the “space station” kitchen. He finds the proximity of the table to fridge quite the amenity — "You can grab the condiments without getting up from your chair."
Sorry, my dear, but that will not be one of the amenities in the new kitchen.

Hi I can't tell you how many times I've referenced this blog - thank you so much!! (We are also in a coop in NYC and doing an IKEA kitchen with Liebherr fridge). I am trying to figure out the toe kick situation with Liebherr. How high did you end up making the base cabinet toe kicks?
ReplyDeleteThe toe kicks are normal height. I did not use the IKEA ones. We asked Scherr's the door maker to make them. They stop at the pantry. So, the Liebherr has no toe kick in front of it. It has the Liebherr grill. I'll see if I can find a photo.
