And we have doors!
Things are really coming together now. The sink has been repositioned and fixes made to the length of the sink run. Some of doors are up, and gosh they’re beautiful. Scherr’s did this bit of custom work. They’re solid maple in shaker style painted Sherwin Williams Extra White with a durable factory style finish. They came pre-drilled for the IKEA Blum hinges and scaled to fit my IKEA layout.
IKEA doesn't make a 35" high wall cabinet, so we combined a 20" + 15". As the doors were being custom made, no one will ever know we stacked two.
Sign of a well made door—the panels are solid maple. You can tell they are by the raised panel on the inside.
So, I feel crown molding would look too traditional in this kitchen, so our carpenter Juan is stripping down some extra toe kicks to fill the space above — which is just 1-1/2 inches at one end and 3-1/2 inches at the other. (These old buildings are never plumb.) He does beautiful work.
The contractor is also in love with IKEA cabinets + custom doors. This is the fifth such kitchen he's done. But I'm the first who ordered the doors from Scherr's. The others all used one of the other companies that do custom to fit IKEA: Semihandmade or Reform. Reform is a Dutch company that does super-modern in dark moody colors. If I'd wanted a navy kitchen, I'd have gone with them. But we're all swooning over the quality of these white shaker doors.
I made the right choice.
